£1,000,000 FOR DEFENCE
GIFT TO LONDON STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. SINGAPORE, April 24. The Legislative Council has sanctioned a gift by the Straits Settlements of £1,000,000 payable in London, “towards the cost of the defence of the British Empire." The Council has recommended that the money be spent locally.
