PLAZA THEATRE

' SHAW’S "PYGMALION.” Bernard Shaw’s brilliant comedy “Pygmalion” is to have a successful season at the Plaa Theatre, extended till next Tuesday. As the eccentric Professor Higgins, a phonetic expert who wagers that he can educate a Covent Garden flower-girl sufficiently to have her accepted as a society debutante at a duchess’ reception within three months, Leslie Howard has never had a role more subtly suited to his personality, and never one which lie lives with greater relish. A Lan-cashire-born actress, Wendy Hiller, personally selected for the role by Bernard Shaw, plays the part of the cockney girl with rare ability and understanding. She is one of the greatest acquisitions to the screen in the past few years. Wilfred Law’son ■ as the girl's father, who accepts £5 for his daughter, but refuses £lO “because it would be against his principles,” gives what many consider the finest supporting performance in a character role seen in any flrlm for a considerable period.
