NOT YET RECEIVING SICK BENEFITS
MEMBERS OF LODGES DOCTORS WILL NOT SIGN PAPERS [Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, April 26. A denial that social security sick benefits were now payable to friendly society members was made at a meeting of the Manchester United Lodge when the secretary reported on a conference of lodge secretaries with the registrar of the Social Security Department. ft was stated that those present at the conference declared their inability to undertake the duties required of them under the present system. Lodge secretaries with other employment would not have time to carry out the multifarious duties and fill in the complicated forms required by the department. The secretary reported also that the lodge medical officer had refused to sign the printed forms of the department and had advised that no members of the British Medical Association would sign any paper or printed form issued by the Social Security Department. In the meantime the lodge had several members entitled to claim on the fund but because of these difficulties could not secure benefits.
