Mr. Alec. Cameron, of Hunterville, sails this week on the Awatea for Sydney, thence to Melbourne and Tasmania.
Mr. W. Peat has been appointed to represent the Wanganui Interprovincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on the executive of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce in succesion to Mr. J. R. Franklin, who has left the district.
Major J. A. D. Iverach, M.C., has been appointed to command the Otago University Medical Company, New Zealand Medical Corps, in place of Lieutenant-Colonel R. A. H. Fulton, who has been transferred to the Reserve of Officers.
Lieutenant-Colonel J. W. Craven, M.C., Reserve of Officers, Royal Army Medical Corps (Territorial Army), has been appointed lieutenant-colonel, New Zealand Medical Corps, and transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Northern Military District.
Mr. J. Siddells was welcomed back to his seat on the Wanganui City Council last night, after his lengthy illness. The Mayor (Mr. W. J. Rogers) referred to the concern Mr. Siddells’ health had caused and expressed pleasure at the fact that he was now making good progress. Cr. Siddells, replying, said that the kindly interest taken in his welfare had been very stimulating. Members of the staff of the Eltnani branch of the Bank of L'.ew Zealand assemble*d last week to .r.anc a presentation to Mr. W. D. Hart, who has been transferred to Raetihi. The manager, Mr. B. Brown, prouented Mr. Hart with a silver cake dish or. behalf of the staff and wished him every success in his new home. A welcome was extended to Mr. Hart’s successor, Mr. Marshall. Mr. Frank Campbell was appointed chairman of the council of the New Zealand Football Association at the first meeting of the newly-elected council on Monday night. The retiring chairman, Mr. J. A. Milburn, who declined the chairmanship for business reasons, was appointed vicechairman. Members of the council spoke appreciatively of the work performed by Mr. Milburn as chairman for the past three years. Mr. H. Calcott, who has been on the staff of the South British Insurance. Company’s Wanganui branch since 1926, has resigned to take up a business engagement on his own account at Taumarunui. Mr. Calcott joined the South British in 1920. On his arrival in Wanganui he took a keen interest in Rugby football and played consistently for the Kaierau Club. He was farewelled by the club at a gathering at the gymnasium last night. Mr. Calcott leaves for his new position at the end of the month.
