Scott's suggestion, decided to recommend to a public meeting tha£ •a cernival be promoted to raise funds for Wanganui's Centennial. “Let the sections of the council, as »hey are, forget their differences and bury the hatchet in this,” Cr. Scott appealed. While disagreeing with the form and location of the Wellington provincial memorial decided upon, a hall and bathing sheds on Petone Beach the council passed for payment a sum of £155 towards the cost, plus £lO i for a provincial organiser’s salary.
