WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, April 20, 3 p.m. General Situation.—Yesterday's depression has been moving slowly off the Dominion, but a secondary appears to be forming in the north-east Tasman Sea. An intense anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong northerlies at first over the northern half of the North Island, otherwise moderate to strong southerlies to south-easterlies prevailing and reaching gale force at times about and north of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Southerly to south-easterly winds strong to gale force with rough to high seas in the northern portion. Light to fresh in the southern portion with moderate seas. Weather: Fair to fine in Southland, elsewhere cloudy to overcast and in places misty with further rain. Some heavy falls in the North Island, but improving gradually from the south and west to-morrow. Temperatures cold, with some snow on the ranges. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John's Hill, report, for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, nil. Rainfall, 2.9. Temperature: Maximum, 65deg. Fahr.; minimum, 52deg. Fehr.
