Rain began shortly before midmgnt g yesterday and continued interrnittent,r ly all day. e An officer of the Meteorological Department said this afternoon that ° rain had begun lo fall steadily in r ' Taranaki before mid-day and it, had ■■ been raining all day in parts of lhe Westland, Nelson and Wellington provinces. Little ram so far, ha* fallen in the Wairarapa. though there has been some in Masterton. At inniday rain was falling in Dannevirke and Napier, and a thunderstorm in Palmerston North about 3 f>.m. would bring further rain. The fall in Wellington continued till G a.m. There had been further rain from 10.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 12.30 p.m. there had been a l. steady fall to 4 p.m. The fail was 34 a points. Since March 10, when 75 b points of rain had fallen, there hail d been only six small falls, totalling h-19 points. There appeared to be a s definite break in the drought over 7 the whole Dominion. It was exQecten that eonugh further rain would fall n to relieve the desperate position in - many districts. The position in the e Wairarapa should be greatly inid proved. The last substantial fall <34 P points) had fallen there on March 10. h the total for March being only 74 points.
