FIRE ON FRENCH LINER
——— SABOTAGE SUSPECTED SERIOUS DAMAGE RESULTS ißy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received April 19, 11.5 p.m. LE HAVRE, April 19. A serious fire has broken out on lhe French liner Paris. It began in the ship's bakery at 11.30 p.m. and rapidly spread to the principal saloon promenade deck, which was ablaze . at 12.30 a.m. The liner has £150,000 worth of. art exhibits aboard for the New 5 ork World Fair. The vessel was due to sail to-day. Two ship’s firemen fell into lhe hold while fighting the flames. One was killed and the other seriously injured. The flames were slowly being brought under control at 2 a.m., but it was feared that most of the passenger accommodation had been destroyed. Sabotage is suspected. The British United Press says that an Italian docker has been arrested. The Paris has sunk 40 feet from yte dockside, but the art treasures, and also several of the latest type of airplanes bound for the New York Fair were saved. The Compagnie Generale Transatiantique decided yesterday to stop all visits to ships while in port, fearing sabotage.
