BULLS PLUNKET SOCIETY

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual general meeting of the Bulls branch of the Plunket Society was held on Tuesday, the annual report being as follows: — “There was a good attendance of members at the annual general meeting held on April 13, 1938. “During the year a baby carnival was held to raise funds for the Plunket and Rest Rooms. This was most successful, over £6OO being raised to start the building. Operations have been delayed a little because of difficulties over the site, but we hope these will soon be overcome. As a result of all our efforts for the Plunket and Rest Rooms our own funds have not been augmented. Subscriptions this year are very low, and we hope subscribers and mothers will help a little more liberally this coming year. The box in the Plunket Room collected £1 0s 6d. An application to the McCarthy Trust for a donation was refused. “We were pleased to see again Nurse Gorrie, who was relieving while Nurse Richmond was on holiday. Nurse Richmond has been a ready help to all mothers, and she reports the general health of the babies is good. Her figures are:— “New baby cases. 16 (wholly breast fed 13, artificially fed 3). Visits to homes. 93 (new cases 20, old cases 73). Visits to rooms. 756 (adults 347, babies 311, children 98). “During the year the work has progressed steadily. We are now back in Clifton Hall, which is very convenient for mothers. Except for an epidemic of measles, and some cases of whooping cough, the health of the children has been good. “We wish to thank Mrs. Shaw for holding committee meetings at her house; the local firms who stock the Karitane products; Mr. R. Mackay for auditing the books; Miss N. Wilson for giving us the free use of Clifton Hall on sale days; Mr. aVid Mrs. Price for giving nurse lunch on visiting days; and all those who have assisted the branch in any way during the year.”
