WANGANUI EAST CLUB VISIT TO WAVERLEY The Wavcrley Club has asked the Wanganui East players lo make an afternoon visit to them. As next Saturday will be the only suitable date before Easter it has been decided to make the visit next Saturday afternoon. Players wishing to participate are asked to enter their names on the board at once so that transport arrangements can be made. A novel pairs competition is in progress at Wanganui East for a pair of roosters donated by a member of the club. The pairs playing consist of skips and leads, also twos and threes. Each game is of 12 ends and on the sudden-death system. A large number of the club’s members are taking part. One prominent member, well known for humour and so sure of winning, has gone so far as to order stuffing so as to be ready when the birds become his property, if ever. Two other members have given a dozen eggs each as a second prize. The B singles competition is now completed, the winner being Tom Penn, who came through without a loss. His win was very popular. In the A sinbles, Fletcher, with two lives, has to play Raine, with one life. The remaining games in the B pairs is between Stanton and Jenkins, with two lives, and Dempster and Taylor, with one life. The A pairs have been completed, Tippins and Howarth coming out winners. Thq Gordon pairs have been found in Boss and Caldwell, also Purnell and Fletcher. During the last few weeks the lady players of Castlecliff have been paying afternoon visits to Wanganui -East to obtain practice with men players prior to visiting Christchurch to take part in the ladies’ bowling tournament. The ladies certainly show a very high standard of play and should give a good account of themselves at the tournament. Last Saturday, Wanganui East held morning and afternoon tournaments. Both were attended by many from other clubs and a very enjoyable day eventuated.
