WORLD BROADCAST AN IMPASSIONED APPEAL JUSTICE AND CONCORD CAUSE OF CIVILISED PROGRESS [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] VATICAN CITY, March 3. In a world broadcast, in Latin, the Pope appealed impassionedly for international justice and concord to enable the peoples to continue civilised progress. The programme of the Pontificate would be the furthererance of world peace and charity. The Pope spoke for four minutes in a clear and ringing voice, which was in great contrast with the tones of his predecessor. Vatican ollicials are very impressed with the vigour with which the Popedealt with the forces of disruption throughout the world.
CORONATION ON MARCH 12
(Independent Cable Service.) Received March 4, 5.5 p.m. ROME, March 3. It is officially announced that the Coronation of the ’Pope will take place on March 12. Reports in Vatican circles state that Cardinal Pacelli, in the respective ballots, gained 35, 40 and 61 votes. The London News Chronicle says 500,000,000 people throughout the world are likely to hear broadcast of the coronation ceremony, the British Broadcasting Corporation arranging to relay the Vatican description on all wave-lengths throughout the Empire Mr. Eamon de Valera has sent a message to the Pope praying for success in bringing peace to the world. Mr. de Valera is personally attendind the coronation. General Franco telegraphed to the Pope filial congratulations and most fervent wishes for a long and prosperous pontificate in the name of himself and Spain, which was fighting against the enemies of the faith. The Foreign Minister, Senor Jordana, also sent congratulations.

APPOINTMENT WELCOMED IN BRITAIN [ British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, March 3. The newspapers welcome the election of Cardinal Pacelli as the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church. The Times says that the new Pope’s choice of a name suggests that he will follow in the footsteps of his intrepid predecessor. The prayers of his flock and of many Christians who do not recognise his religious sovereignty will go with him in the great task he has assumed on his sixty-third birthday. The Daily Telegraph says that by Cardinal Pacelli’s election the cardinals have associated themselves with the ncdicy previously followed of combining forbearance with the increasing outspokenness which Pope Pius XI pursued towards the authoritarian regimes after the Lateran Treaty. _
