"Flyer” Runs Late.
Late running of the Wanganui-New Plymouth express, known as the “Flyer,” on several occasions during the past fortnight, has caused considerable inconvenience to travellers. An explanation of the reason for the delays was given by the District Traffic Manager’s office, Wanganui, yesterday. Apart from breakdowns which were unforeseen, it is stated, the “Flyer” was sometimes held back at Aramoho to wait for a mixed goods connection from Marton with passengers for Taranaki off the Auck-land-Wellington Limited express. Late running of the Limited caused delay of the mixed train and of the departure of the “Flyer” from Aramoho if the Marton-Aramoho mixed train carried passengers for the “Flyer.” The “Flyer” was not held back for the mixed train unless it carried passengers for the “Flyer.” Sometimes, it was pointed out, the mixed train was delayed between Marton and Aramoho by extra heavy goods traffic, either directly or due to the late running of a goods in the opposite direction. Every effort was made to run the "Flyer” to timetable, it was stated, but in some cases, to retain the connection between the Marton train and the “Flyer” at Aramoho it was necessary to hold the “Flyer” back.
