AMERICA’S FIRST LINE OF DEFENCE

ENGLAND AND FRANCE Received March 3, 11.20 p.m. NEW YORK. March 2. Senator Logan, in an address during the defence debate, giving expression to the extreme co-opera lionist policy, said: “It has been said that the President remarked that France and England were our first line of defence in the event of an attack on the democracies by the dictatorships of Europe. Whether he said It or not, we know it is true. We cannot be attacked by any nation in Europe unless England and France fall. It is important, therefore, that we do what we can to see that England and France do not fall a prey to the dictators. I would furnish England and France with everything they need to fight a defensive warfare. I would also seek to avoid to the fullest extent furnishing anything to Germany and Italy that would enable them to carry on a war of aggression. ’
