BIG ASSEMBLY IN WANGANUI TIME-TABLE FOR THE WEEK '1 he sound of the Wanganui Ccn Ira I Fire Brigade's siren, as the engine was rushed down Victoria Avenue to a lire on the Taylorville side of the river yesterday, brought several members of other brigades out to see the city team in real action. The city is well populated with firemen ready for the annual demonstrations. They have a busy week in front of them, and will begin activities to-mor-row with a church parade at which four city bands will take part. The procession is to start from the Central Fire Station in Wilson Street, and will march down Wilson to Ridgway Street, thence to Victoria Avenue. The assembly is to lake place sharp at 10 o’clock. The programme for the week ).- - Sunday. At 11 a.m.:. Church parade, assemble 10 a.m. Central Fire Station, Wilson Street. Afternoon: Suit championsnips at Castlecliff; special trams leave post office 2.20, returning 4.50; firemen in uniform free on special trams. At 8.15 p.m.: Sacred concert at Opera House by the Wani ganui Garrison Band and assisting artists. Monday. At 9 a.m.. Conference opens at Si. Paul’s Hall, Nelson Street; 1’) a.nt., civic welcome to delegates. Tuesday. Conference continued throughout the day. At 2.30 p.m.: Visiting ladies wil be taken for a motor drive to Virginia Lake and entertained al afternoon tea. The bus will leave from the City Council offices, SI. Hill Street. Evening: Procession and sports meeting, in conjunction with lhe Wanganui Highland Pipe Band and Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. All firemen are asked to parade in procession from Town Bridge to Cook's Gardens. Wednesday. At 9 a.m.: Demonstration begins at Cook's Gardens and continues throughout the day; 2.15 p.m., social afternoon tendered to visiting ladies by the Wanganui Townswomen s Guild at the Savage Club Hall, Drew s Avenue. Thursday. At 9.30 a.m.: River trip to Hipango Park; evening, dance Carlton Hall. Friday. Demonstration resumed; evening, late shopping night. . ■Saturday. At 9 a.m.: Demonstration continued; 2 p.m., grand finals of an competitions; 7.3 U p.m., free-and-easy with the boys, and presentation ol prizes. Visiting firemen and theii ladies are to be the guests of thi various bowling, tennis and croquet clubs. Firemen in uniform arc honorary members of the Commercial, Cosmopolitan and St. John's Clubs during their stay in the city.
