MILITARY LORRY GOES OVER BANK

WANGANUI BOY INJURED ACCIDENT NEAR TAIHAPE A light motor-lorry belonging to the Defence Department and in use at the military camp at Waiouru, went over a bank about five miles north of Taihape last evening, and Sergeant Harold Gillespie, of Wanganui, was injured and admitted to the Taihape Hospital. Sergeant Gillespie, who was driving the truck at the time, left Taihape in it, accompanied by Private W. T. Collerton, about 5.30 yesterday afternoon. When some distance out a

puncture of a tyre caused the driver to turn the vehicle round and drive back towards the town. It was on the return journey that the accident happened, and Sergeant Gillespie suffered concussion and was removed to the Taihape Hospital by the ambulance. His condition was described last night as fairly serious and that there has been little change since his admission. Private Collerton received minor injuries only. He v/?.s pinned under the vehicle when it came to rest, while Gillespie had been thrown clear. The lorry was not. extensively damaged.

Sergeant Gillespie, who is 19 years of age, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Gillespie, Wanganui East. He ai II his companion belong to the Second Battalion of the Wanganui Regiment.
