NEW ZEALAND TEACHERS

EXPERIENCE IN BRITAIN LEAGUE OF EMPIRE SYSTEM [ Per Brest .'.asociation.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. After spending a year in England under /the exchange system of the League of Empire, three New Zealand school teachers returned to the Dominion by the Oronsay. They were Miss Ruth Sheat, French mistress al Nelson Girls’ College, Miss S. C. Ferrier, of Methven, Canterbury, and Miss M. M. Glover, of Wellington. Miss Sheat spent a full year at Parliament Hill Girls’ School, London, Miss Ferrier specialised in infant work at various Bradford schools and Miss Glover taught in a number of Surrey schools. Warm praise for the manner in which the League of Empire assisted and entertained teachers from various Dominions and Colonies was expressed by the returning New Zealanders. Practically every week-end excursions of interest were arranged, while at term holidays tours of Britain and the Continent, were made. Through the efforts of the League the visitors were able to attend such gatherings as Buckingham Palace garden parties, State opening of Parliament and the Derby. Passengers to Sydney by the Oronsay included about 10 of a party of 21 English school teachers who will serve in New Zealand schools during 1939 under the League of Empire exchange system.
