RAETIHI SHEEP FAIR

excellent clearance. Freeman R. Jackson and Co, Lid, report on their Raetihi Sheep Fair held on Thursday, 2nd inst, as follows : An entry of 900 mixed sheep was offered to'a good attendance of local and visiting farmers. With the exception of three pens a total clearance was effected. Lambs met with a good sale, particularly for ewe lambs, prices in most cases showing an advance on recent rates. In the grown wether section a free sale resulted. Only two pens of medium quality five-year ewes were yarded, the balance of the ewes comprising aged and nondescript sorts. Hence values secured ir. this department of the sale cannot be regarded as an indication of the market. We quote prices as under:—Medium 4 and 5-vear ewes 18s, 18s Id; late shorn 2-th ewes 25s sd; aged ewes 10s, 10s 4d, Ils to 12s; good 2-th wethers (early shorn) 17s 4d; others 16s Id, 16s 4d, 16s 7d to 17s; smaller framed sorts 14s 9d, 15s 2d, 15s 3d to 15s 6d; inferior 12s 7d to 13s Id; medium to good woolly ewe lambs 18s 6d; medium shorn ditto 16s Id, 16s 6d to 17s 4d; smaller sorts 14s 4d, I4.s* 6d, 15s 2d to 15s 6d; fair conditioned wether lambs 14s, 14s 2d, 14s 3d, 14s 4d to 15s Id; lighter conditioned but well grown wether lambs 12s, 12s 6d to 13s 7d; smaller sorts made from 9s Id to Us; culls 5s 2d to 7s 6d.
