W.D.F.U. MEETING (Own Correspondent'. WAVERLEY, Feb. 4. The monthly committee meeting of the Waverley branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Town Board room on Friday afternoon. Those present were Mesdames J. Newland (president), W. McFarlane, C. J. Dickie, W. Alexander, J. Brown, P. V. Graves, A, Morrison, H. Strachan, and Miss Elmslie. Apologies were received from Mesdames H. Boyer, W. R. S. Brewer, W. Boyne, A. L. Elmslie, Robertson, A. G. Wallace, and Miss Cheyne. After the minutes had been read and confirmed, a letter was read from Mrs. Hibberd, thanking the branch for its letter of sympathy. An invitation was received for all members of the Waverley branch Io the opening on February 18 of the W.D.F.U. rest home, Kaiaga Moe, formerly Flock House. Arrangements have been made for conveyances for visitors from the railway station to the home. The president stated that at the end of last year the Waverley branch had sent a gift of bath towels to help fit out the new rest home. A letter from Wanganui stated that arrangements had been made for a trip up the river next month. AIL members were invited but the date had not yet been fixed. It was decided to send the following remit to lhe provincial council next month: “That the Government be urged to assist in the immigration of girls suitable for domestic duties in country homes in New Zealand.” Final arrangements were then made for the flower show and bring-and-buy stall to be held in the Town Hall on March 10. Afternoon tea will be served as usual and one raffle will be held. The following are the classes for the floral competitions: A gift box, a spray, six best blooms, twelve best blooms, a bowl of flowers (open), a bowl of flowers (under 18), and a bowl of flowers for school children. The committee decided to donate 15s to the Waverley A. and P. Show for a pound cake. Mrs.'Newland gave an account of a meeting held by the Defence League in Waverley and the ideas of the league on compulsory training and, after several members had spoken on the subject, the meeting adjourned.
