THE DAINTY THALICTRUM
Among the dantiest of all plants we must place the Thalictrum dipterocarpum; it even seems to lighten its cumbrous name! Most species of Thalictrum have leaves rather like those of the columbine, but more finely cut. The flower stem of a vigorous plant of T. dipterocarpum reaches a height of over six feet and bears large numbers of lovely mauve flowers with yellow stamens. Like most plants in the herbaceous border it appreciates a rich soil. A mulch of rotted compost or stable manure suits it admirably. As the plant dies down to the ground its position should be carefully marked to avoid damage in the winter digging.
