WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, January 18, 3 p.m. General Situation.—Pressure is still very low to the south-east of the Dominion but barometers have risen considerably with the approach of an anti-cyclone from the south-west Tasman Sea. Conditions are disturbed in the Northern Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Westerly to south-westerly predominating at first but turning to southerly to-morrow over most of the country. Force moderate to fresh in the far north, elsewhere strong and reaching gale force in places but gradually moderating. Seas (New Zealand waters): Moderate north of East Cape, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong south-westerly to southerly winds with rough seas. Weather: Dull and misty in the far north with rain but otherwise changeable with passing showers and bright intervals. Some hail still probable in the South Island and snow on the alps. Temperatures cold in the south and cool to moderate elsewhere.
