Dunean Sandys, M.P. for Norwich, presided at a secret meeting with the object of forming a new political group. Over 100 were present, including a number of members of the House of Commons. A provisional statement of policy declared that the weak foreign policy and incompetent defence preparations endangered Britain. “If Britain continues to muddle through she is inviting not only war, but also defeat, involving the destruction of the Empire,” the statement declares. Mr. Duncan Sandys if 30 years of age. He was educated at Eton and Oxford University. He was for several years a member cf the British Diplomatic Service, being secretary at the 1 British Embassy at. Berlin in 1930-32. He has travelled in Soviet Russia and Siberia and was a member of the United Kingdom delegation to the Lausanne Reparations Conference, held- in 1932, also to the World Economic Conference in London the following year. He became Conservative M.P. for Norwood in 1935.
