BRITISH PRO-CONSUL AND HIS WIFE HELD IN SEPARATE CELLS [By Telegraph—Pres« Association—Copyright} Received Jan. 5, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 4. It is understood that Mr. Ernest Golding, pro-consul at Burgos, who was arrested by Spanish Nationalist military police, and his wife arc at present in separate cells in San Sebastian gaol. They will be tried be[fore a military court on charges of I wilfully passing unauthorised, damaging messages across the frontier. The insurgents are allotting them counsel. The Daily Telegraph’s Hendaye correspondent says that Mr. Jerram, the British agent at Burgos, has been instructed to press for an explanation of the arrests and do everything possible to assist the Goldings. It is understood that the British Government is convinced of the Goldings’ innocence and will welcome a public trial.
