AL. CAPONE PAYS HEAVY FINES
HOPES FOR RELEASE THIS MONTH BUT THERE ARE COMPLICATIONS Received Jan. 5, 5.5 p.m. CHICAGO, Jan. 4. Al Capone, through his attorney, paid the Federal Government 37,692 dollars, covering fines for failure to pay income tax, in order to facilitate his release on January 19, which, however, seems to be complicated through a number of circumstances. He stiL owes 20,000 dollars in other fines. He is reported to be suffering from paresis. Fie faces immediate re-arrest and the likelihood of years of imprisonment in Illinois on misdemeanor charges.
