SUCCESS OF MARTON ATHLETES Over the holiday period several Marton athletes journeyed to sports meetings in the surrounding district, and met with fair success. Marton had a large contingent at the Feilding Caledonian meeting sponsored by tne Feilding Pipe Band on Saturday and Monday. The second day was a momentous one for K. Coles, who asserted his superiority over athletes from all parts of the coast, by winning the 100, 220, and 440 yards handicap in line style. On the first day, Coles was second in the 440 yards handicap. On Saturday, A. Bush was first in his heat of the 100 yards, but was unplaced in the final. In the 220 yards, Bush was third. Miss R. Christian gained third place in the ladies' 75 yards, W. Hill secured second place in the one mile handicap, a position which he obtained in a similar race on the second day. L. Moss finished second in the 440 yards. At the Onga Onga sports meeting on Monday, an exciting nnish was wit nessed in the one mile handicap when three competitors, two being Marton entrants, breasted the tape almost together. The first place resulted in a dead-heat between H. Haycock and an outside competitor, while third place was annexed by 8. J. Christopher. Both Marton boys ran off the 110yard mark. The sports meeting at the Marlon Park will be continued next. Tuesday evening, when another entertaining programme will be presented. MARTON A. AND F. SHOW ENTRIES CLOSE JANUARY 13. Entries for the Marton A. and P. Association's annual show, which will be held on the Marton Racecourse on Wednesday, January 25, close on Friday, January 13, for all sections with the exception of fruit and vegetable classes, which close on the morning ot the show. PERRY There was an attendance of 1500 people at Waihehe Island, Auckland Harbour, on Monday, when twelve motor-cyclists faced the starter in the N.Z. Tourist Trophy Race. There were a number of minor accidents, but there were no serious injuries. L. Perry (Auckland), riding a Velocette, established a record for the race of 2hrs. 47mins. 31secs., and won from A. J. Dean (Levis) and J. B. Dale (Gold Star 8.5. A.). These were the only riders to finish. PERSONAL Mrs. P. Mitchefl, Marton, caught a fishhook in the first finger of her right hand while fishing at the Clyde Quay Wharf, Wellington, at 3.55 p.m. on Wednesday. The Free Ambulance took her to the Wellington Public Hospital.
