BUILDING BOOM IN GISBORNE

1938 A RECORD YEAR

[ Per Press Association. l GISBORNE, Jan. 5.

The year 1938 was a record one for building in Gisborne, a boom period during the last four months bringing the total value of buildings put in hand to probably £160,000. or more. Permits issued by the Gisborne Borough Council during the year totalled 175, the lowest total for eight years, but the estimated value of the work was £146,445, to which must be added a further £20,000 or £25,000 for State houses, which were begun during the 12 months and which are not included in the Borough Council’s figures.
