WANGANUI CLUB PROGRESSIVE PAIRS TOURNAMENT The final play for the holiday season at the Wanganui green took the form of a progressive pairs tournament, an innovation much appreciated by those who had not experienced this system before. Sixteen pairs participated, five games of 11 heads being played. Capt. White, who won all his games, headed the list of skips. Halligan, Heraud and Cade, with four wins, tied for the lead honours. In a play-off of five heads Halligan eliminated Heraud and the final saw Cade defeat Halligan to "carry off the bacon." VVaverley Visit The annual visit to Waverley will be paid next Saturday, January 7. The Wanganui players will travel by ’bus leaving the Nelson Street green at 12.45 sharp. The rinks will be on the notice board this evening. MANAWATU CENTRE NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT POST-SECTION PLAY PALMERSTON N., Jan. 4. On greens somewhat heavy following over-night rain post-section play in the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s New Year pairs tournament commenced this morning. Later the sun came out and the greens became keener as the day progressed. Interest at the Palmerston North green this morning centred in the first round game between R. Connor and C. Anderson (Northern), last year's winners, and V. Goldfinch and J. K. Paton (Palmerston North). The Palmerston North pair quickly adapted themselves to the conditions and, playing splendid bowls, won easily. In the second round two undefeated pairs of section play, F. Rosvall and C. L. Mowlem (P.N.) and T. E. Barton and W. Cuming (Marton), were drawn to play. They were even, 11 all, at the 11th head, but Mowlem went on to win 27—11. P. Skoglund (runner-up.last year), with C. Kenning as lead, met the Canterbury pair C. Haworth and R. Haworth, son and father respectively. They were even, 16 all, at the 20th end, Skoglund scoring one on the last end to win 17—16.
