BOY SCOUT JAMBOREE
THE OFFICIAL OPENING MOVEMENT AN INFLUENCE FOR PEACE [By Telejrixph—Press Association—Copyright’ Received Dec. 31, 10 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 31. With nearly 11,000 Boy Scouts standing solemnly before him in colourful array, the Governor-General of Australia, Lord Gowrie, to-day officially opened Jhe Seventh World Scout Jamboree. The spectacle at Bradfield was witnessed by 50,000 people. Lord Gowrie inspected the guard of honour drawn from the various contingents in camp. He read a message from the King, who sent his best wishes and trusted the boys would do their utmost to live up to the Scout traditions. His Majesty added that it was in their hands to do much to help in the peace of the world. A message from Lord Baden-Powell was also read. During the afternoon, visitors witnessed displays by the Scouts.
