NOT GOING TO CONTEST
HASTINGS BRASS BAND MAY BE SOME SOLOISTS HASTINGS, Dec. 30. The Hastings Citizens' Band will not Ibe participating in the forthcoming bands' contest in Timaru, according to the announcement made to the Her-ald-Tribune this morning by the conductor, Mr. Chas. Bryant. This will be the second occasion that the band has not taken part in a contest held in the South Island during the past 10 years. “We have decided to concentrate our efforts upon the next contest, which will be held at Wellington during the New Zealand centennial celebrations,” said Mr. Bryant when commenting upon the decision of the band not to undertake the trip south next February. He expressed the opinion that, several other North Island bands would be adopting a similar policy I this year, and though they, like Hastings, entered for the Timaru contest they would not be participating. The fact that the band had entered for the contest, he pointed out, allowed individual members of the band the right to participate in the solo contests, and though at the moment he was doubtful whether there would be any Hastings instrumentalist availing himself of the opportunity, it was practically certain that several enthusiastic bandsmen from Hastings would at least attend the contest which is to be held next February.
