WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, January 2, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone of moderate intensity envelops the Dominion but pressure is falling in the south with the advance of a depression across the South Tasman Sea. Forecast. —Winds: Light to moderate southerlies to easterlies predominating in the far north, elsewhere moderate to strong northerlies to north-westerlies, reaching gale force at times in exposed- positions south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits moderate but rising south of Egmont, else- < where slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light easterly winds in the northern portion with slight seas, otherwise winds between north and west, of gale force at times in the southern portion, with rather rough to rough seas. Weather: Continuing fair to fine in eastern districts and the far north, rain gradually developing in the far south and later extending to scattered parts of western districts as far north as Taranaki. Warm east of the ranges and mild elsewhere.
