Ice Skating In Tropics Made Possible
TOLEDO, Ohio.—lnquiries from all parts of the United States and from some foreign countries followed announcement hero recently of the invenfl lion of artificial ico for skating in all limates and seasons by an obscure housewife chemist. The new material seems many think, to revolutionise rccreaiional activity, making ice skating possible at all seasons of the year and oa tho floor of any public building or rinkJ Iceolite was christened by its inventor, Mrs. Bessie Pastor, who will not disclose the ingredients used except to say that there are 16, one a silicate and one a vegetable oil. Chemistry is her avocation. In private life she is Mrs] Michael Berliney, housewife. Mrs. Pastor, while not giving up her home duties in a modest Toledo dwelling, has patents cd 17 other chemical products. Professional skaters who gave the synthetic ’’ ice a trial at its world’ debut recently, declared it to be as ‘fast” as natural ice. The material is expected to be inexfl pensive. High temperature molts the product into liquid form. It then is poured about an inch thick upon any surface. Tho iccless ice then into a smooth surface. The surface is taid to be equally adaptable* for ice skating, roller skating, dancing, tennis, basketball, or other games. It is described by its sponsors as being so durable that it wilF last for years. For 20 years Mrs. Pastor has beenl working to perfect the new material Mrs. Pastor and her husband organised! the firm of Pastor Laboratories, Inc.
