SHALE OIL INDUSTRY

AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPMENT Received Dec. 6, 10 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 6. A report on the shale oil industry of New South Wales was tabled in the Legislative Assembly to-day by the Premier. It deals with the development of the Newnes field near Lithgow which was recently revived with Government assistance. The report states that by the end of 1939 about 700 tons of oil shale will be mined daily, while during 1940 it is expected that 170,000 tons of shale will be produced, with a yield of 180 tons of fuel oil and 15,000 gallons of petrol each working day. Mr. Orr Walker said there must have been aggravation and fined Howe £5.
