ROAD SAFETY WEEK

P VERYONE will agree that much more care needs to be exercised on the roads by pedestrians, eyelists and motorists. The probleih is to instil into the minds of all sections that mutual co-operation is essential for mutual safety. It is to be remembered that the standard of care is continually moving upwards. Many people still retain the road habits which were formed in horsc-and-buggy days. Since the advent of the motor-car there have been improvements made in all directions with a view to increasing the speed at which traffic can travel. Engine efficiency, body design, and road construction have all contributed to advance the speed road traffic. It is this consistent change to which the human factor finds difficulty in reaccommodating itself. The Road Safety Procession which will visit Wanganui to-day should do much to impress upon the minds of all the need for making a personal effort to adjust road-user habits to present-day conditions.
