WILSON’S ILL LUCK

ANOTHER FALL AT OTAKI EXTENSIVE INJURIES Misfortune attended the popular Trentham horseman S. Wilson when resuming riding at Otaki on Saturday after having been out of the saddle for four weeks. His firs*, mount of the day, Barabbas, was brought down in the Manuao Maiden Plate, and Wilson was again extensively injured. At first it appeared as if both rider and horse might have been badly hurt, but Barabbas got up all right, and early reports of Wilson’s condition were only that he was suffering slight concussion and a shaking. Wilson was removed to the Palmerston North Hospital for observation, and it was there ascertained that his injuries were more extensive. His concussion was worse than at first suspected, his collarbone was again broken, and his chest and ribs were also bruised and damaged. His condition at latest report was still serious, but he had some sleep early yesterday morning and it was hoped to be able to examine him during the day. Wilson had a bad fall at Riccarton on November 5. After riding Arctic King to victory in the New Zealand Cup. he had the mount on Rakahanga in the Stewards’ Handicap, the mare falling near the finish and Wilson , breaking a collarbone. Wilson rej sumed riding work last Tuesday, and ■ Barabbas, who carries the Arctic King j colours, was his first mount since the I Riccarton accident. Wilson’s further mishap will mean

practically for certain that he will not be fit enough to ride Arctic King in the Auckland Cup. The only inquiry during the day at Otaki was into the fall cf Barabbas. Evidence was taken from the jockeys concerned, excepting S. Wilson, the rider of Barabbas. The inquiry was then adjourned till Wilson can give evidence, but it was announced that on the evidence heard the mishap appeared to have been purely accidental.
