SCHOOL YEAR
PRIZE-GIVING FUNCTIONS TERM ENDS NEXT WEEK Primary and secondary schools in the Wanganui district will hold their annual breaking-up and prize-giving ceremonies next week when the final term of the academic year will end. The Wanganui Girls’ Colege will hold its break-up, in the school assembly hall, on the night of Thursday, December 15. The speaker will be Miss J. A. Barr, M.A., of Wellington, who will present the year's awards to the successful pupils. The speaker at the Wanganui Collegiate School will be Major-General J. E. Duigan, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces, who is an old boy of the school. Major-Gen-eral Duigan will present prizes and sports trophies at the St. George’s Preparatory School during the afternoon and at the Collegiate School at night, the latter function being in the Big School. The Wanganui Technical College does not hold a breaking-up ceremony but will hold its annual picnic on Friday, December 16, near Hipango Park on the Wanganui River. Certificates won during the year for work in the class-room will be presented to the successful pupils on the afternoon before the picnic. The speaker at the annual prizegiving at the Wanganui Intermediate School will be Mr. A. F. McMurtrie, of the staff of the Education Department at Wellington and formerly senior inspector of schools for the' Wanganui Education Board. The function will be held in the school hall on the night of Thursday, December 15. The primary schools in the Wanganui Eaucation Board’s district will close on Friday, December 16.
