DRIVERS’ GRIEVANCES
CONFERENCE PROPOSED. AUCKLAND, Dec. 3. As the outcome of representations made by the Drivers’ Federation to the Federation of Labour with respect to the matters in dispute in the General and the Local Body Drivers’ Awards, it is stated that the employers in the industry have agreed to meet representatives of both federations for the purpose of discussing the alleged defects in the awards. The conference is to be held in Wellington in about a fortnight’s time, and is looked on by the drivers in Auckland as yet another attempt to settle the grievances without resorting to direct action. The questions in dispute arise out of the recent awards issued by the Second Arbitration Court, and relate principally to hours.
