REGENT THEATRE

“KATHLEEN MAVOURNEEN” AND "RETURN OF JIMMY VALENTINE" Sally O’Neill, the beautiful IrishAmerican star, heads the big cast in “Kathleen Mavoureen,” concluding at the Regent Theatre to-day. "Kathleen Mavourneen” is a delightful combination of romance, laughter, thrills and popular Irish songs ’ and dances, in which Sally is supported by Tom Burke, world-fa-mous tenor; Talbot O'Farrell, Sara Allgood, Pat Noonan, and a host of other favourites. Any picture with Roger Pryor playing the leading role is well enacted and highly amusing. The Republic production “The Return of Jimmy Valentine,” which is also at the Regent Theatre, lives up to that promise, with Pryor himself giving a breezy performance in the role of Gary Howard, reporter. Co-starred with Pryor is Charlotte Henry as the lively, sprightly Midge Davis. “The Old Corral” and “She Loved a Fireman” Commencing to-morrow at the Regent Theatre, “The Old Corral,” with popular Gene Autry in the principal role, brings to the screen a thrilling story of the clash between modern gangdom and the Old West. It tells of the invasion of the West by modern gangdom, when a night cluo entertainer, accused of murder, takes refuge in a Western town. Gene Autry, the sheriff, finds himself in difficulties when faced with gangsters using machine guns and all the advantages of modern warfare, but he proves that he is quite equal to them. He sings no fewer than four numbers, “Old Pinto,” “The Old Corral,” “Heart of the West" and “Silent Trails,” the first two of which he composed himself. Abounding in fast action and thrilling adventures against novel backgrounds, the picture has an excellent supporting cast, | including Hope Manning, Lon Chaney, junior, and Smiley Burnette. Also on the programme is “She Loved a Fireman.”
