WELLINGTON WOMEN’S TOURNEY N.Z. CHAMPION BEATENMISS P. BELL (WANGANUI) BEATS MISS J. HORWELL [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. There were some surprises in the first arj second rounds of the Wellington women’s provincial gol£ championship tournament, which was played on the Heretaunga links to-day. A surprise came early in the first round when the New Zealand champion, Miss S. Collins (Wellington) was beaten by Miss J. Hornabrook (Masterton), 1 up. Another surprise came in the second round when Miss P. Bell (Wanganui) outplayed Miss J. Horwell (Timarr' and won 2 up. Following are the results: — First Round Miss V. Fleming (Christchurch) beat Mrs. T. Ellis (Miramar), 8 and 6. Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui) beat Mrs. McKillop (Christchurch), 4 and 3. Miss H. Buchanan (Christchurch) beat Miss White Parsons (Christchurch), 4 and 3. Miss C. Smith (Invercargill) beat Miss D. Todd (Masterton), 4 and 3. Miss P. Bell (Wanganui) beat Mrs. Cornaga (Cambridge), 1 up. Miss J. Horwell (Timaru) beat Miss A. Pritchard (Dannevirke), 4 and 3. Miss J. Hornabrook (Masterton) beat Miss S. Collins (Wellington), 1 up. Mrs. D. Crombie (Wellington) beat Mrs. Welton Hogg (Wellington), 2 up.

Second Round. Miss Fleming beat Miss Duncan. 4 and 2. Miss Buchan beat Miss Smith, 2 and 1. Miss Bell beat Miss Horwell 2 up. Mrs. Crombie beat Miss Hornabrook 4 and 3. Miss Collins and Miss Hornabrool; had a great battle which was notable more for its closeness than for the brilliance of the golf. Beth had lapses on the out journey. Miss Hornabrook took 41 for the out journey, with 6 s at the sixth and eighth. Miss Collins took 42 for the run out. She did 6's at the second and sixth and 7 at the seventh. Miss Hornabrook took 41 returning and Miss Collins 42.
