Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, Oct. 13, 3 p.m. General Situation. —An intense anti-cyclone is centred west of the North Island while a rather shallow westerly depression extends from south-eastern Australia across the south Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Light to moderate and somewhat variable at first but with northerlies gradually predominating from Taranaki and Hawke's Bay southward and later freshening.. Seas (New Zealand waters): Slight to moderate generally but rising in the far south, and to-morrow also, about Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate northerly winds freshening gradually, especially in the central and southern portions. Seas, slight to moderate but rising ia the southern portion. Weather: Fair to fine generally at first but clouds increasing in western and southern districts of the South Island with rain developing and spreading slowly northward over western districts.
