“WHO IS LEADING?"
ELECTION NIGHT QUESTION RESULTS TO BE BROADCAST “CHRONICLE”-HERALD SERVICE Complete arrangements have been made to broadcast the results of Ihc election to the people on election night, Saturday, October 15. A “Chronicle”-Herald broadcast will be made from the Drill Hall, progress reports from local and district centres being put over the air immediately they are available. The broadcast will start at 7.30 p.m. and finish at midnight. Full results of the election, showing the state of the parties and the complete personnel of the new House, will be published in Monday’s “Chronicle.” In 1935 upward of 3000 people gathered at the Drill Hall to follow the progress of the voting, and although the national broadcasting service has arranged to announce the results over the air again, another large crowd is expected to come out of doors to keep in touch with the state of the poll. There is something appealing about the psychology of an election-night crowd. There is a tenseness about and opportunity is afforded for close study of human emotions. When the doors of the booths close candidates and workers will face a brief period of anxious waiting, and the fortunes and misfortunes of the various candidates will then be cheered (or otherwise), and getting to know the winners of the battle will become exciting. The bigger the centre the greater the excitement. The question of the moment on election night will be “Who is leading?” On Monday morning, in the calmer moments of getting back to work, the questions will be, “Who won?” and “What now?”
