HUNGARY’S FEAR

WILL HITLER STRIKE? YOUNG COUPLE'S STORY Fear that the hand of Hitler will strike next at Hungary has caused uneasiness in Budapest and efforts are being made by m* ny to leave the country, according to a young Hungarian, Mrs. Susi Glausiuss, who, with her husband, Mr. George Glausiuss, has arrived at Christchurch. “Many are trying to leave, but they are locked in because they cannot obtain permits to land in other countries,” said Mrs. Glausiuss. “We were lucky. My cousins are the Roland Sextette family, and they were able to arrange for u? to come to New Zealand.” When the Glausiuss couple left Budapest on July 15, Hungarians were becoming increasingly apprehensive. They eared that at any time Hitler, having gained control of Austria, would next . ttempt to take Hungary. Mr. and Mrs. Glausiuss have come to settle in New Zealand. Mr. Glausiuss owned a factory in Budapest in which he made loud-speakers and other equipment. He sold the factory bu kept his equipment, and hopes to start in business in New Zealand. A skilled maker of gioves by hand, and a talented fashion designer, Mrs. Glausiuss hopes to start a little business of her own in New Zealand. “No, it was not fear or oppression that drove us away,” said Mrs. Glausiuss. e had always wanted to travel and our cousins had often asked us to come to New Zealand. So e decided ta leave Budapest.” A fluent speaker of German and .'tench as well as her native tongue, .’•lrs. Glausiuss could not speak English until she boarded the Ormonde at Naples. She has picked up the language with amazing speed and has little difficulty in carrying on a conversation.
