Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, Oct. 12, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone of considerable intensity is moving from the Tasman Sea on to the Dominion and a shallow depression is advancing from south-eastern Australia across the Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: Light to fresh but decreasing south-westerly-winds turning to-morrow to northerlies in places about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough at first north of Farewell Spit and father rough between Banks Peninsula and the East Cape but moderating, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate southerly winds but a change to north-westerlies advancing from the west. Seas slight to Moderate but rising to-morrow in the southern portion. Weather: Fair to fine, clouding over to-morrow, however on the south-western and southern coastlines of the South Island with scattered rains developing. Temperatures cool, with some frosts, but milder to-morrow. The New Zealand Friends’ School St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 5 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 9 hours 40 minutes. Rainfall, .1 inches. Temperature: Maximum, 59deg. Fahr.; minimum, 49deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 6.39 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.35 a.m. Pha es of the Moon for October.—First Quarter, October 1; Full Moon, October 9; Last Quarter, October 16; New Moon, October 23; First Quarter, October 31.
