MAGISTRATE’S COURT
INTOXICATED MOTOR-CYCLIST. FINE OF £2O IMPOSED. The following cases were dealt with by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Wanganui yesterday : A fine of £2O, in default two months’ imprisonment, and his licence cancelled till October, 1939, was imposed on Don Natonahira Reremoana for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor-cycle in Anzac Parade. Senior-Sergeant L. R. Capp said that two of the Wanganui City Council inspectors noticed defendant cross the town bridge on a motor-cycle steering an erratic course. He had a pillion rider and a child on the machine. He stopped at the service station and the pillion rider and child left the motor-cycle, which fell on defendant. The police were sent for and defendant was taken to the station, where he was certified to by a doctor as being intoxicated. He was 28 years of age and lived in Rotorua. James Walter Anthony pleaded guilty to handing over a rifle to Thomas Gurney Salt without a permit, and was ordered to pay costs 12s. Salt, for procuring the rifle without a permit, was ordered also to pay costs 10s.
William Battell, for sellihg apples on a Sunday, was fined 10s, with costs 10s. Hector Joseph Meads, who crossed over a railway line in Taupo Quay when an engine was approaching was fined £2, with costs 12s. Senior-Ser-geant Capp said that defendant had a narrow escape and crossed the line just in front of the engine. Clifford Arthur Coley, for driving a motor truck at night without lights, was fined 10s, with costs 10s.
Romney Jack Richdale, who failed to give way to a vehicle on the right, was fined £2, with costs, 13s.
