BURGLAR CAPTURED BY YOUNG MAN
CHASE OF HALF A MILE ACCUSED PLEADS GUILTY [ Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 6. The capture of a burglar by a young man after an early-morning chase of about half a mile was described in the Police Court when John Francis Sehdroski, labourer, aged 33, pleaded guilty to five charges or breaking and entering houses in Morningside, Mount Albert, Epsom and Ponsonby, between August 24 and September 26. The charges alleged the theft of 30s in money and a quantity of goods of a total value of £9l. The articles referred to included a fur coat and two gold rings, two attache cases, cigarettes, canned foods and an electric torch.
Owen Henry Trevor Stevens said that at 3.15 a.m. on September 26 he heard his father call out to him and saw the accused running away from their house in Western Springs Road. He gave chase and finally caught the accused after running about half a mile. He threw him and held him down until witness’ father arrived, and they took him back to the house until the police were called. Constable Kirk said that he arrested the accused, who was in his stocking feet. Acting - Detective - Sergeant Aplin said he recovered some of the stolen
property, including the fur coat and attache cases, in the accused’s room. Accused made statements admitting all his offences, and said he desired to clear the matters up.
Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
