IDLE BUTTER MARKET SLOW TENDENCY FOR CHEESE The butter market is idle, according to a Press Association message sent from London on Thursday. Values are unchanged at the maximum rates of 116 s per cwt. for New Zealand choicest salted; unsalted, 118 s; Australian, salted, 114 s; unsalted, 116 s. These rates will rule until the close of this week.

The current quotation is equal to 13.86 d per lb., f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the Government’s guaranteed price of 14.89 d per lb„ f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d sterling per cwt. Maximum cheese rates also are unaltered on a slow market. New Zealand white and coloured are quoted at 72s per cwt; Australian, white, 695; coloured, 70s.

The equivalent price of New Zealand cheese is about 8.19 d per lb., f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. The London equivalent is 73s 9d sterling per cwt.
