BUSINESS OF THE MONTH. (From Our Own Correspondent.) KIMBOLTON, Sept. 22. The chairman, Mr. L. T. McLean, presided over the monthly meeting of the Kiwitea County Council. There were also present Crs. F. E. Tappin, W. P. Shaw, D. T. Couper, W. G. Clapham, A. S. D’Ath, D. Stent and A. E. Shannon. Correspondence. The following correspondence was dealt with;— From Mr. A. E. Pearce, Waituna West, drawing the council’s attention to a very dangerous bend on the Northern Line, No. 377 main highway.—Referred to overseer. From the Public Works Department, forwarding authorities for the expenditure of (a) 1112 on a f 3 for fl basis to cover the cost of the engineering survey in connection with the Cheltenham crossroads bridge, and (b) fll2 on a £3 for fl basis to cover the cost of engineering survey in connection with the proposals for sealing two miles of the No. 553 main highway, from Cheltenham to McKay’s Line.—Received.
From the Public Works Department, advising payment of subsidies on works carried out on the No. 152 main highway, from Cheltenham to Mangaweka bridge, amounting to £3787 2s 2d.—Received. From Mr. D. P. Buchanan, Beaconsfield, protesting against the amount of his hospital rate for the current year, and the application of county funds for memorials of any kind.—Referred to clerk to reply. From the Public Works Department, forwarding copy of the main highway estimates 1938-39, Received. County Finances. The treasurer reported on the county finances as follows:—Countyfund account, debit 12477 7s 2d; employees’ accommodation account, credit £386 15s sd; Kimbolton cemetery account, credit f 4 Ils 8d; land fund account. credit £l4B 16s; Rangiwahia cemetery account, credit £7 Ils 8d; Waituna cemetery account, credit £9 Os 3d.
