Stamps of Peru. A boundary dispute between Peru and Ecuador recently brought those two South American countries into the spotlight. Peru, probably more than any other South American country, has featured the natives who lived in the country at the time the continent was discovered by the Spaniards. The Incas and their emperors, Manco Capac, Atahualpa and Huascar, are featured on various pictorial stamps, and a number of stamps in recent issues have featured Inca gods and customs. Peruvian stamps feature also the early history of the country under Spanish rule, showing discoverer Pizarro on numerous stamps. Bolivar, great South American liberator who led the fight for freedom on various South American countries from the Spanish empire around 1820, is shown on numerous stamps. Also featured on the stamps of Peru have been scenes of the country, of various public buildings, of industry, of early Spanish governors and forts.
