Mr. and Mrs. A. Hogg, Boyd'field i Street, have returned from Rongotea. I Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lawson are Wei lington visitors to Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs.-F. H. Cooper, Auckland, are visiting Wanganui. The Mayoress, Mrs. W. J. Rogers, has consented to become patroness of the newly-formed Mothers Helpers’ Society. Mrs. B. J. Meads, Westmere, left last evening on a visit to Auckland. Mrs. G. F. Lomas, Campbell Street, has returned from a holiday spent at Wellington and Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Robinson, Grey Street, have planned a trip to America and will leave next week for Auckland, to join the Mariposa, which sails on August 22. They expect to be away about three months. Mrs. L. McGreevy, Rotorua, accompanied by her small daughter Elizabeth, is spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs. D. R. Strang, Moore Avenue, Gonville. Miss Elsie . Andrews. M.8.E., returned to New Plymouth on Wednesday after travelling throughout New Zealand on a publicity tour for the New Zealand Pan-Pacific Women’s Association. Miss Julie Werry, of Sydney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Werry, St. John’s Hill, has been engaged to sing at a reception to be given at Hotel Australia for Mrs. Richard Tauber, wife of the famous singer, both of whom are visiting Australia. Many friends will be sorry at the departure from Wanganui, of Mrs. Erling Ziesler and her mother, Mrs E. Dailey, for they have endeared themselves to all with whom they have come in contact. During the past few weeks they have been entertained at numerous farewell parties. Mrs. Ziesler leaves by motor to-morow for Hamilton, where she will in future reside. Her family will follow when school breaks up for the term holidays. It is announced that Miss Helena J. Clarke will arrive in New Zealand in September to take up the position of head mistress of the Craighead Diocesan School for Girls at Timaru. Miss Clarke is a master of arts and holds the English higher diploma of education. She comes from the staff of St. James School, West Malvern, which is one of the best girls’ schools in England. From information received from Englnd it is learned that Miss Clarke is a young woman of outstanding personality, and an enthusiast for all the latest developments in educational methods. She should prove an acquisition to the educational life of the community. ENGAGEMENT. Robert >hawe—Hayman.—The engagement is announced of Jill, only daughter of Mrs. A. R. Hayman, of Wellington, and Richard Edward Ralph Robertshawe. third son of Mrs. M. L. A. Coghill, of Wanganui, and the late R. H. Robertshawe, of Dannevirke.
