WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, Aug. 13, 3 p.m. General Situation.—The anti-cyclone mentioned yesterday is now centred east of New South Wales, but is losing intensity. Pressure hqs been rising slowly over New Zealand. Forecast.—Winds: Light to moderate and rather variable with south-westerly predominating at first but gradually tending to northerly about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough at first north of Kawhia, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to fresh winds between south and west with rather rough but decreasing seas. Weather: For the most part fair to fine but some scattered showers still probable in the extreme North and South. Milder day but cold night temperatures with some sharp frosts. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 5 hours. Rainfall, nil. Temperature: Maximum, 60deg. Fahr.; minimum, 32deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 5.07 p.m.; time of sunrise to-morrow, 6.44 a.m. Phases of the Moon for August.—First Quarter, August 3; Ful Moon, August 11; Last Quarter, August 19; New Moon, August 25.
