DECREASE IN STERLING EXCHANGE STATE ADVANCES STEADY The weekly statement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New J Zealand as at the close of business c : i Monday, August 8, is as follows: Liabilities.
Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No. 5) to notes and other demand liabilities, 69.106 per cent., compared with 69.249 per cent, on August 1. Sterling exchange this week is at the lowest level seen since the Reserve Bank started business in August, 1934, the present total of £14,594,122 showing a further decrease of £728,186. Gold remains unchanged at £2,801,791. Subsidiary coin amounts to £227,389, an increase of £384. Advances to the Primary Products Marketing Department total £3,758,781, a decrease of £180,977. Advances to the State for other purposes are unchanged at £2,600,000. Investments remain at £2,732,065. Other assets amount to £63,622, a decrease of £8475. . Demand liabilities to the State show a decrease of £611,333, the total being £4,887,924. The trading banks’ reserve balances amount to £6,264,770, a decrease of £477,907. Other demand liabilities at £395,775, show an increase of £73,404. Liabilities in currencies other than New Zealand total £22,245, an increase of £17,205. Other liabilities amount to £115,021, a decrease of £10,998. The statement balances at £26,777,770, a decrease of £1,018,103.
