Further business was of the usual routine nature. WAVERLEY DAIRY CO. At the annual meeting on Tuesday the Waverley Dairy Company reported an estimated total payment to suppliers of Is 4.53 d for the 1937-38 season. There was a good attendance, presided over by the chairman, Mr. F. Johnston. The .advance payment to suppliers was Is Id a pound of butterfat in monthly payments. In June a further Id a pound was paid, bringing the advance for the whole season to Is 2d. The unsold stock of cheese had ben taken into account at the Government purchase price, and on this basis the estimated total payment of Is 4,53 d was arived at. Statistics were: Suppliers 28 (30 in the previous season); milk, 7,660,5831 b. (8,931,9051 b. butterfat, 336,3211 b. The question of “dry” shareholders received considerable discussion and a motion that they be paid interest on their invested capital was defeated. After 30 years in the company’s service it was stated by the chairman that the manager, Mr. J. F. Nicholls, was leaving the company’s employ. He thought Mr. Nicholls’ long service with one company was probably unique in the district. Since the company’s premises were gutted by lire this year the load on the manager and staff was increased tenfold, and from this aspect they had served the company well. Mr. Nicholls, in replying, said he had been present at every annual meeting of the company for the past 30 years. He could not recollect a meeting in which there had been any unpleasantness. He thanked the directorate, suppliers and secretary, for their support, and assured them that he would always cherish a keen interest in the company, even when he left Waverley. Messrs. T. J. Davis and J. Cook were elected to the directorate. Reference was made to the excellent work of the secretary, Mr. J. C. Gray, who had done great work for the company since the fire. Mr. T. McKenzie was appointed auditor. KOHI DAIRY COMPANY When the Kohi Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., held its annual meeting last Monday, Mr. E. C. Hone presided.
